Dear Entrepreneur,

When I opened my first business — a senior home care franchise — I quickly learned that most business owners didn’t trust technology. They said things like:

“It’s too complicated.”
“It’s too expensive.”
“I don’t want to lose the personal touch with my clients.”

I understood. They cared deeply about serving people — just like you do. But that belief? It was costing them their freedom.

Because while everyone else clung to paper schedules and in office worktime, I made a bold decision back in 2007 to embrace technology. I bought GoToMyPC so I could log in from home in my comfy PJ’s with my cats by my side — somehow this made the 80+ hour workweeks just a bit easier to handle — and work remotely on weekends without living in the office. It wasn’t glamorous. It would randomly shut down from updates (it was 2007 lol), but it gave me something priceless: time.

Later, when my first client care coordinator wasted hours driving back and forth just to print and deliver documents, I saw the problem clearly. She wasn’t inefficient — the system was.

So, I bought her a laptop, a portable printer, a Wi-Fi card, and a plug inverter. Instantly, she could work from her car. We saved time, money, and energy — but more importantly, she gained flexibility in her schedule to take time for personal appointments and cheering for her kids during their special moments.

That’s when it clicked.

Efficiency creates expansion.
