10 Little SELF CARE Habits to Feel Better During Your Day

Are you a female entrepreneur looking to level up your game? Have you ever considered that prioritizing self-care could be the key to achieving your goals?

My guess is probably not, and you might even think that suggestion is ridiculous!

You are not alone!  I felt the exact same way the first few years of my business!

But if you are a female entrepreneur struggling to balance work and personal life and find yourself neglecting your own needs in the pursuit of success, in this video, I'll explore why self-care is crucial and how it can actually improve your overall productivity and well-being.

In this video, I'll be sharing 10 little habits that can help you feel better during your day, so you can build a successful business without having to hustle too hard. And I know a lot of women have been asking me about this topic, because I've been working on it with them in my community and one-on-one sessions.

So first things first: what is self care?

Well, it's basically just taking care of yourself—not just physically or emotionally but also mentally. The idea is that if you take care of yourself, you'll be able to accomplish more in all areas of your life, including in your business.

So why am I talking about self care now?

Well for one thing, it's been a pretty popular topic lately—and when something gets popular that shows there is a need for a solution to a problem!

Self-care is something that many women struggle with, but it's also something that can really help you get through your day and feel better.

I've been practicing self-care for a while now, and it's helped me build a successful business without all the hustle.

I personally believe that everyone should be practicing self-care, but especially entrepreneurs or anyone who works from home. It can be easy to get stuck in the same routine day after day, which can lead to burnout or depression.

I know that when I don't take time for myself or make my own needs a priority, my productivity goes down, my stress levels go up, and my motivation fades away.

I also know that when I do practice self-care, it helps me stay focused on what matters most in my business: my clients' needs. That way when they come back for more work (and they always come back), I'm ready for them!

So today I want to share with you 10 little habits that will help you feel better during your day so you can keep doing what matters most -- creating a great customer experience for your community!

#1 - Start your day with a healthy breakfast: Eating a nutritious breakfast can provide you with the energy and nutrients you need to tackle your day. Try to include protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates in your breakfast.

My breakfast is currently dairy free, no sugar added coconut milk yogurt. I add some hemp seeds and MCT oil to it and then add in a variety of nuts to help me power through my morning! I am practicing to eat my breakfast slower and enjoy this time so I can better digest my food and improve my gut health, so I grab a personal development book and read a chapter or two while eating to relax and enjoy!

#2 - Take a quick walk outside: Spending just a few minutes in nature can help you clear your mind, reduce stress, and improve your mood. Even a short walk around the block can make a big difference.

There have been wayyy too many days where I never even went outside (and that's not because the weather was horrible either), I always just thought I did not have any extra time for this short break!  I was wrong! Don’t be like me!  Take my mom’s advice, who worked in Human Resources for 40 years, which is to go outside and eat your lunch and do a midday reset! She is the one who insisted we get a picnic table at our office just for this reason!

#3 - Drink plenty of water: Staying hydrated is important for your overall health and well-being. Aim to drink at least 8 cups of water per day, and keep a water bottle with you throughout the day to help you stay on track.

This is a practice I started in 2015, when I read Cameron Diaz’s book Body. She speaks about drinking room temp water each morning right when you wake up and how it clears brain fog, gets her digestion working and energizes your body after sleeping al night!  I still do this practice daily, and when I don’t, I feel sluggish! My tip for drinking your 8 cups a day is to lay them out on your counter or desk as a reminder!  But my pro tip, is to stop drinking right after dinner to avoid those midnight pee breaks!

#4 - Practice deep breathing: Taking a few deep breaths can help you reduce stress, calm your mind, and feel more grounded. Try to take a few deep breaths whenever you feel overwhelmed or stressed.

I am totally guilt of being a big ol’ failure at this!  My boyfriend is ALWAYS saying “BREATHE” when he sees me holding my breathe or sitting there!  Who knows why, but I struggle with this!  However I know its a practice and how do you get better at something, by forming a habit and setting time aside to work on it. So this is where my daily yoga practice comes in, there is a technique called Box Breathing!  I find this super simple to understand and use. It looks like this…breathe in for a count of 4, hold for a count of 4, breathe out for a count of 4, and hold for a count of 4. I just picture a box in my mind and then do this a few times when I need take a moment to regroup!  Try it for yourself.

#5 - Stretch or do some light yoga: Stretching or doing some light yoga can help you release tension in your muscles, improve your flexibility, and reduce stress. You can do simple stretches or yoga poses right at your desk or in a quiet corner of your workspace.

I have done yoga on and off for years but I never had a routine per se until July 2021 when I was traveling back home to Massachusetts!  I knew my schedule would be all over the place being on vacation so I figured yoga would be an easy thing I could do each morning!  Fast forward years later and I am still practicing on a regular basis!  It might be at home in my office for 30 minutes or on the beach for an hour with a teacher, but instituting this into my daily life has been a game changer for my mentally and physically, so I highly suggest trying it!

#6 - Take a digital detox: Constantly checking emails, social media, and other notifications can be stressful and overwhelming. Taking a break from your devices and unplugging for a little while can help you reduce stress and improve your mental clarity. Try setting aside a specific time each day to disconnect from your devices, or even take a day or weekend off from technology entirely.

This is something I started a few years ago. I shut off all email and social media notifications on my phone!  This way during the day I am more productive and can focus without distractions. To ensure I stay on top of needed items, I check email and social media in the morning, at lunch and once at night.  My mental health has improved tremendously just by ditching the dings all day long!

#7 - Listen to calming music: Listening to calming music can help you reduce stress and improve your mood. Try creating a playlist of your favorite relaxing songs and listen to it whenever you need a quick pick-me-up.

I am not someone who listens to music during the day while working from home. It’s just not me because I prefer the quiet. However, at night my boyfriend asks Alexa to play some calming jazz music while we chill out and relax and it truly helps my mind slow down, my body to chill out and prep me for my bedtime routine!  Make a playlist or find a channel you like and try adding this into your nightly routine to train your brain that its time to start chilling out!

#8 - Practice gratitude: Taking a few minutes to focus on what you're grateful for can help you shift your mindset and improve your overall well-being. Try writing down a few things you're grateful for each day or simply take a few moments to reflect on what you're thankful for.

There are two ways I like to practice gratitude, one is by journaling in the morning during my morning routine. And two is by visiting my favorite place where I can sit, think and “chat” with my dad since he has passed. This is my family’s special spot where we can go and luckily its only a few miles from our house!  You might want to find your special spot too, which again will trigger your brain, that when you arrive, this is where you chill, relax, think and just count your blessings!

#9 - Take a relaxing bath or shower: Taking a warm bath or shower can help you relax and unwind after a long day. Try adding some Epsom salt or essential oils to your bath to make it even more relaxing.

I no longer have a bathtub (which I truly miss at times, when I just need a good calming soak) so instead I just stand in the shower, massaging my shoulders, until the warm starts to cool off, and then I jump out all relaxed and warm and toasty!  I find this works best in the morning when I don’t have anywhere to go or at night before bed.

#10 - Get a good night's sleep: Getting enough sleep is crucial for your overall health and well-being. Try to establish a regular sleep routine and aim to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night. You can also try creating a relaxing bedtime ritual to help you unwind and prepare for sleep.

This one is my secret sauce!  And has been my entire life!  Getting enough sleep, which to me is 8-10 hours per night, has been the answer to all my problems!  No matter whether I am sick, tired, stressed, or confused, I sleep and somehow miraculously when I wake up, I feel 10 times better!  If you are not getting enough sleep, I highly recommend you start a bedtime ritual that allows you to relax and prep for a great nights sleep!

In Summary,
