Before we explore these game-changing examples, let's take a moment to acknowledge the incredible journey you've embarked upon as a woman entrepreneur. Building a business from scratch is no small feat, and it often requires immense dedication, passion, and hard work. But in the midst of chasing our dreams and conquering new horizons, we sometimes lose sight of the most crucial aspect of our success: our own well-being.
Setting boundaries is the key to maintaining a healthy work-life balance. It allows us to nurture our personal lives, preserve our mental and physical health, and ultimately become more effective and fulfilled business owners. So, let's prioritize ourselves and learn from these powerful examples of women who have successfully mastered the art of setting boundaries.
Example 1: The Power of Saying No
First up, we have the power of saying 'no.' As ambitious women entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves saying 'yes' to every opportunity that comes our way. But the truth is, by saying 'yes' to everything, we inadvertently say 'no' to ourselves. It's time to embrace the power of prioritization. Learn to identify what truly aligns with your goals and values, and confidently say 'no' to the rest. Remember, saying 'no' doesn't make you selfish—it makes you focused and in control.
And as someone who said YES to every single thing that came my way from 2007-2010, I can tell you first hand that this leads directly to burnout! Plus it also sends you in directions that may not align with your dream lifestyle vision, which causes you to veer off the path and lose focus!
Example 2: Unplugging for Self-Care
Our second example is all about self-care and unplugging. In a world driven by technology and constant connectivity, it's essential to set boundaries around our digital lives. Dedicate time each day to unplug, unwind, and rejuvenate. Whether it's taking a walk in nature, indulging in a hobby, or simply spending quality time with loved ones, prioritize activities that nourish your soul. Remember, self-care isn't selfish; it's an investment in your long-term success and happiness.
Technology has allowed us to build robust businesses from wherever we are in the world! It has also allowed us to start and build businesses easier and cheaper than you could have in the past! BUT the main problem is technology never shuts down, which is good and bad! When you build a business that is a well oiled money making machine like I teach in my Legacy Business System it works when you don’t but if you don’t have a system, technology will overtake your life and drive you into even more overwhelm!
Example 3: Designating 'Me Time'
Next, let's talk about the importance of designating 'me time.' As women entrepreneurs, we often put everyone else's needs ahead of our own. But remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. Schedule regular blocks of 'me time' in your calendar for self-reflection, relaxation, or pursuing activities that bring you joy. This intentional self-investment will boost your energy levels, enhance your creativity, and ultimately make you a more effective leader.
My ‘me time’ is every morning from when I wake up until around 10am! This is the time I do my daily yoga, breathing techniques, mindful morning routine, review my vision board and just start my day my way! Scheduling “me time” in your day is key for you to unwind, think, and refill your cup doing things you enjoy!
Example 4: Setting Clear Boundaries with Clients
Moving on to our fourth example—setting clear boundaries with clients. In our quest to deliver exceptional service, we sometimes end up being available 24/7. But setting boundaries doesn't make you any less committed or professional; it actually enhances your credibility. Establish clear communication guidelines, define your working hours, and educate your clients on the importance of respecting your personal time. Remember, you deserve to have a thriving business and a life outside of it.
Having worked in the healthcare industry for 10 years when I had my franchise business, I know the toll being on-call 24/7 can take on your emotional health. Clients will run you down, if you do not set boundaries! Here is the thing though, when you provide amazing service and help your clients get results, they will work with you and adhere to the boundaries you set. Just lay them out in the beginning and follow them. You can jeopardize these boundaries by replying to emails, answering calls, or just being available outside of your normal hours, so write the email and then schedule it to send when you are open for business!
Example 5: Delegating and Outsourcing
Last but not least, let's explore the art of delegating and outsourcing. As women entrepreneurs, we often wear multiple hats, juggling various responsibilities. However, recognizing that you can't do it all is a sign of strength, not weakness. Identify tasks that can be delegated or outsourced, allowing you to focus on your core strengths and passions. Embrace the power of collaboration and build a support system that allows you to thrive both personally and professionally.
This last example is how you can run a business 24/7 and provide amazing customer support without having to do it all! You could implement 24/7 phone support by hiring a support team that works varying hours. You can service more clients by delegating tasks outside your zone of genius! And you can achieve your dream lifestyle by building a team that uses the technology you setup to run your well oiled money making machine! All successful entrepreneurs know the power in delegating and outsourcing!
