Why your sales calls end great and your follow ups end in silence

This Week's Message...

  • Ghosting isn't a sales skill problem. It's a structure problem hiding in plain sight.
  • You don't need a better follow up email. You need one sentence before you end the zoom.
  • 80 hour weeks tripled my revenue. 16 hour weeks quadrupled my paycheck. The math should make you rethink everything you were told about hustle.

Dear Entrepreneur,

One question ended the ghosting for good. Not a follow up sequence. Not a better subject line. One question, asked out loud at the end of a sales call, that I stole from a stranger on a Florida golf cart deal over ten years ago. Since April, I've asked a version of it at the end of every call, and every single person I've needed to follow up with has answered me. Not most of them. Every one.

Here's where it came from.

About eleven years ago, when my boyfriend and I first started spending time in Florida, we wanted a golf cart. We found one on Craigslist (is that even still around😅), three hours north, and being us, we didn't think twice. We borrowed a friend's trailer, hitched it up, and hit the road.

Nothing about that trip went right. The trailer broke down on the highway. We got a flat tire. Traffic backed up for miles right when we were already running behind. By the time my boyfriend called the seller to say we were still coming but running late, we'd been on the road for hours longer than planned, and I fully expected the guy to hang up and sell the cart to someone else.

Instead, he asked one question before he said goodbye.

"Are you a man of your word?"

Neither of us said anything for a second. Nobody had ever asked us that directly before. Not "will you actually show up" or "should I wait for you." Just that. Are you a man of your word. And once he said it out loud, there was only one honest answer. Who is going to say no to that question and still feel okay about themselves?

We showed up. We bought the cart. And that question stuck with both of us for over a decade, long before I ever thought to use it in a sales call.

If you've ever ended a great call and then gotten total silence when it came time to follow up, you already know exactly what that felt like from the other side. Keep reading, there's a fix below →

Back in April, I was tired of watching the same pattern play out with women I'd had incredible calls with. Great energy, real connection, a clear next step we'd both agreed to, and then nothing. No reply on the date they said they'd decide. If you've ever been ghosted after a call that felt genuinely good, you know exactly how confusing that silence feels.

So at the end of every call, once we've agreed on a follow up date, I ask one more question: "So just so I know what kind of person you are since we'll be working together, when I follow up with you on that date, are you going to hit reply and give me an answer, or are you going to ghost me?"

The answers have been the best part of my week, every week, since April. "OMG I'm not an a**hole." "I hate that feeling too." "I would never do that to you." And every single time, the date comes and they answer.

Here's what nobody teaches at this level. Ghosting isn't a follow up problem. It's a symptom, and it's a small one compared to what's actually underneath it.

Every business owner I've ever worked with who's built something real, whether they know it or not, is running on four pillars. Structure. Systems. Support. Streamline. When one of those pillars has a gap in it, it shows up as a symptom that looks unrelated on the surface.

Ghosting looks like a follow up problem. It's actually a Structure problem: no accountability loop built into the moment the call ends.

A team that keeps waiting on you for every decision looks like a hiring problem. It's actually a Systems problem.

A business that can't run without you for two weeks looks like a you problem. It's actually a Support problem.

I built all 4 of those pillars into what I now call The 16-Hour Owner System, because that's exactly what it did for me.

There was a stretch where I was working 80 hour weeks and telling myself that was just what building a real business costs. It isn't. Once I rebuilt my own business around those four pillars instead of around my own hustle, my work week dropped from 80 hours to 16. My revenue tripled in the process. My own personal paycheck, not just the business's revenue, quadrupled.

MY OWN NUMBERS

80 hour work weeks, down to 16

Revenue: tripled

My personal paycheck: 4x

The system did it, not more hours

That's the whole point. The "man of your word" question fixed one leak, in one pillar, for one specific frustration. The 16-Hour Owner System is what happens when you find and fix all four.

On a Scale Strategy Session, that's exactly what we do together. We don't start with your sales system in general. We start with your single biggest frustration right now, whatever it actually is, ghosting or something else entirely, and I show you which of the four pillars it's hiding inside. Book your free Scale Strategy Session →

If ghosting has been your version of this, try the question on your very next call. Ask it plainly, ask it with warmth, and let the silence after you ask it do the work. Then let me know how it goes. I want to hear it.

And if ghosting isn't actually your biggest frustration, that's exactly what a Scale Strategy Session is built to find. We name the one thing that's costing you the most right now, not a generic list of everything that could be better. We map it to Structure, Systems, Support, or Streamline. And I show you what The 16-Hour Owner System would look like built for your business specifically, the same four pillars that took me from 80 hour weeks to 16.

If you're running a business that looks great from the outside and still eats every hour you have, book the call.

If you've had a great sales call end in silence and you've quietly wondered if it's you, book the call.

If you're ready to find the one thing that's actually leaking revenue or time instead of guessing at ten things, book the call.

It's just you and me on Zoom for 30 minutes.

Not a webinar, not a room full of people. One conversation, about your business specifically.

I'll see you there.

P.S. We rode that golf cart for a year. Every night, just the two of us, riding around enjoying our little piece of paradise. And then we upgraded, not because the golf cart failed us, but because we knew what we'd built together was meant for more than what that first cart could hold. That's exactly what this call is. Whatever got you here worked. It got you further than most people ever get. But if you can feel that the thing that got you here isn't the thing that gets you to what's next, that's not a problem with you. That's just what an upgrade feels like right before you make it. Book your free Scale Strategy Session →

Spark

A powerful thought to align your mindset with the way million-dollar women think and lead.

"The women who build businesses that actually hold up aren't the ones working the most hours. They're the ones who stopped mistaking motion for structure. A full calendar isn't proof you're building something real. A business that runs without you in the room is."

Shift

One small but strategic shift to refine your systems, reclaim your time, or generate aligned revenue this week.

At the end of your very next sales call, before you hang up, ask this exact question: "So just so I know what kind of person you are since we'll be working together, when I follow up with you on that date, are you going to hit reply and give me an answer, or are you going to ghost me?" One sentence turns an unspoken promise into a spoken one, and spoken promises get kept.
