5 Steps to Automate Your Business | Sales Automation

Want to make increasing your revenue easy?  Watch these 5 simple steps!

We all want to make more money without working more hours but figuring out the secret to making that happen can be overwhelming with the amount of gurus out there sharing this and that new strategy!

So today I am breaking it down for you! 

This video will show you how to take what you are already doing, improve it, and then use the updated strategy to increase your profit this year!

I love learning but I am also very guilty of learning, and learning and learning some more without implementing because I am not sure which path to choose! 

Do I follow this person who says you must be on TikTok?

Or this lady who says Facebook is still the best platform!

Or that other woman who says she built her whole business from blogging!

We are in the best time of our lives with the technology that is available to build a business but if you are like me at all, you might feel like a hamster running around in circles and not getting the results you had hoped for!

You are so not alone!

This is my 5th or 6th entrepreneurial adventure since I sold my multi-million dollar franchise business in 2017!  And finding my sweet spot and how to make it work, was not some magic formula I was introduced to overnight!

So that is why I am sharing 5 steps to automate your sales so you can stop sifting through all the info from those gurus and start implementing today for results ASAP!

So let's get started!

Step #1 -

This step is an absolute MUST do, so if you hear this and say to yourself, “Really, That’s Where We Are Starting?”  Just do both of us a favor and keep listening with open ears because if you don’t do this or do this halfway, you will lose the momentum in steps 2-5!

I want you to sit down for 15 minutes and write out your vision for your life!  Start out by writing your ideal day, something like this… “I wake up…” then write out the details of your day by asking yourself, the following questions:

Where do you live?

What do you do all day?

Who do you surround yourself with?

How do you sustain this daily lifestyle?

Once you answer those, your path will become more in focus with how to move forward for steps 2-5!

Why?

Because if you don’t figure out what YOU want, and you just listen to what everyone else wants and then assume their dreams and goals, you will never be fulfilled in your life and business!  Yes I just made that bold statement! See why this step is so important!

Let me give you an example: If your Ideal Day has you waking up in your beautiful house near the ocean, where you spend your morning relaxing on your deck before you help the kids off to school, followed by time for work on your business, meeting with women in your community, and then welcoming with open arms, your kids after school and the ability to be present while they tell you their tales from the day!

Guess what?

Where in that short window did you make money while they were in school?  Was that window long enough for you to spend the rest of your day with your family enjoying the precious time you have with them before they leave the nest, or are you having to rush them to bed, so you can go hustle to pay for this life while they sleep, which causes you to wake up foggy and not ready for your next joyful day?

Are you getting my drift?  You need to lay out your ideal day with clarity for all aspects of your life including family, friends, and business!

Once you finish Step 1, which by the way does not have to be perfectly well written or a smashing bestseller!  It just has to resonate with what you really want!  Then you move to step 2!

Step 2

Is the one which I dreaded at first but began to love and see the value in because it gave me the answers I had been searching for in my business!

If you are in business and have sales, then guess what?  You have the numbers and metrics to find your answers!

As they say the numbers don’t lie, so this step is key no matter what size business you currently have!

Okay so what I am talking about is crunching your numbers!  Have you ever heard of Pareto’s Principle?  It basically says that 80% of something usually comes from 20% of something else!  So for instance, if you look at your sales, you might see a trend that 80% of your income is coming from 20% of one referral source!

Why is this important?

Because in order to increase your revenue without working more hours, we need to figure out your 20% and then do more of that!

So this is where you start looking at spreadsheets, your financials and any other number you can crunch in your business like your CRM, social media, etc… You are looking to put it all together on a spreadsheet and look for trends!

When I did this back in my franchise business, it saved me money on an employee salary and also allowed me to increase my profit with less clients!  When I crunched the numbers of our referral sources, at the time we were visiting about 1,000 people in our community. After reviewing the history of those referral sources and seeing which ones were actually giving us actual referrals, I realized there were 4 key categories that were the highest on the list: hospitals, home healthcare, assisted living, and rehabs.

So we adjusted our marketing strategy from visiting all 1000+ of those people to focusing on the people in those 4 categories.  I increased our visits from monthly to twice a month and we honed in on our strategy!  This simple shift enabled my sales person to make deeper relationships with the people on that smaller list, which in turn led to more referrals from them and those clients increased our average revenue per client number!

Does that make sense?

Let me give you another example…In my current coaching and course creation business, I crunched my social media stats in 2021 and quickly realized that while my daily posts did well, my daily reels were way outperforming with the views and new followers. So I shifted my strategy to spend more time on making better reels that my community would enjoy and find value in, and all of sudden I was hitting my goal of increasing my views into the thousands!

Knowing your numbers is key!  So block some time on your calendar to dig deep and start looking for your own trends! 

Now that we know what you want and what numbers to dial in on, we can move to:

Step 3 -

How do we get more leads from your most popular referral source that is already working for you?

Sounds simple enough but this may take some creativity!

Here are a couple examples:

  1. In my franchise business, once my salesperson had established those deeper relationships, the referral sources felt more comfortable giving their referrals to not just my salesperson, but my whole team. This lightened my sales person's phone call load which allowed her to spend more time building those relationships.  If your referrals come in via phone and that is the ONLY way you can receive them, how can you build trust for anyone to take that info vs them waiting for the one person they know and trust!
  2. In my clothing boutique business, when I crunched the numbers, I realized that I was making more sales from my weekly Facebook Live vs doing Pop Up Shops on the weekends for hours!  So I formally established my weekly Live schedule, mentioned it all week long to drive traffic, and offered a free gift for anyone who shared the Live while I was on! And off I went from working weekends to just a few hours on a Monday night!  So if you find that your sales are coming in from one particular marketing avenue, direct your weekly posts, reels, etc to that one event to drive more traffic and expand your reach.
  3. In my direct sales skincare business, I realized that 40% of the women who took my free skincare analysis online, were most likely to buy!  That number astounded me, so I reworked my wording of that valuable tool which made it more appealing and I offered it to everyone!  What free tool do you have that you could offer to potential buyers to help them in their purchasing decision?

I hope those examples give you some ideas on how to increase what you are already doing that is working!

Let's move right along to:

Step 4

Which is my love language!  

Automation!

Here is the hard truth… There is only 1 of you and there are only 24 hours in a day. Those two stats are facts!  So if you can’t clone yourself and you can’t get more time, you have to use tools to help you increase your revenue!

Now that we know what you want, what numbers move the needle, and have some ideas on what needs to be dialed in, the question is how do we get more leads from those sources without working more?

Let me give you some ideas from my previous 3 examples:

  1. If you take your leads via the phone, and you are swamped!  You could hire a VA to take those calls aka leads for you!  You design a system where they take the call, take the caller through a script, which moves them through your process to booking an appointment or whatever is your next step. By doing this, you remove yourself from the calls and now you can drive more traffic to your VA because you have a system setup and they are ready to answer and book appointments for you!
  2. During my Facebook Live, I realized one hour was my max for keeping people on live and engaged and buying. And during that one hour, I could only show so many pieces of clothing or jewelry!  If you are in a similar situation, instead of dragging the Live broadcast out for hours, think about doing a Pre or Post Live email where people can see what's new, what's on sale and what they must buy by getting on your email list!  These could be items that are easy to sell without a live demo!  Or maybe you demo the blue shirt and the email has the other colors!
  3. And finally I was lucky that my skincare company has a free analysis online tool. If yours doesn't’ have anything similar, design something yourself. A PDF of your top solutions to XYZ, with a call to action for them to purchase your ABC product that can help with that!

Simple shifts in your mindset and being open to tech and tools can change the way you do business, the amount of people you can help all the while increasing your revenue!

Finally!

Step 5

Is something I have done in my 20+ year career that has worked so well, I just keep doing it!

Working in 90 day segments!

A 90 day period is long enough to test something, but not too long if it's not working that you feel you wasted time, but also long enough that if you have to pivot, you can still see results!

Having a plan is critical to business success!  But having a plan that you are willing to modify is the difference between you and the Top 1%.

Pivots are necessary depending on many things like the economy, world, and ideas that are just not performing how you thought they would!

Once you learn that pivoting is essential and part of the process, you become okay with it!

However do not pivot because you are not seeing overnight results!  Sometimes it will take 90 days to see concrete results and you have to wait it out!  Don’t panic, just keep going and see how it plays out!  I have had ideas that show small results up until the last week of the 90 day period and then all of a sudden they catch on and take off!  So be patient and give your community time to understand what you are offering and why they need it!

In Summary,

You are still in business because you have some or a lot of success!  You know you want more and the way to make that happen without cloning yourself or ignoring your 8-9 hours of nightly sleep, is to dive into your dreams, dig deep into your numbers and adjust your business to dial in what's already working well instead of reinventing the wheel!
