Yes they are the ones who are supposed to be treating you like gold by providing their service or product, but if you reengineer your thinking you might open another door to business opportunities!

 Never overlook an opportunity to grow in business!  Your vendors and suppliers are companies filled with people who most likely know and work with a huge network which could mean increased revenue for your business in different ways!

Respect is something in business that we strive for with our teams and customers, but for some reason, sometimes vendors/suppliers are not treated with as much because you may feel you are supporting them!

I want to challenge you to think differently about this group because you might be losing business that you did not even realize!  And a simple mindset shift might explode your business!

Here are 7 ideas on how you can increase your business revenue by looking for opportunities to treat your vendors and suppliers better:

  1. Think about the delivery drivers who bring your business goods on a regular basis. How does your office great and treat them?  Do they welcome them with a smile, offer them a complimentary water, ask them how their day is going?  Small gestures like these leave an imprint on these drivers.  How could this help you? Simple, they may tell their other customers how they love delivering to your business because you are so warm and welcoming and wow that feels good!
  2. Marketing and PR firms are fabulous referral sources because their job is to showcase you in your best light so they are very likely to use your services themselves or suggest your company to friends or colleagues when there is a need.
  3. In my 1st business we employed hundreds of caregivers to provide services to seniors in their homes. Very often a family member would be home while my team was working. They would see the amazing care, friendly smile, and professionalism my staff would exude!  Many times, we had family members of clients apply for jobs or recommend our company to friends. This was a win win in recruitment!
  4. Service Professionals like IT workers, electricians, plumbers etc. who visit your office to fix problems! I bet you they have a list of companies a mile long that have called and need help! Guess who is going to get faster service when they feel appreciated and like going some places better than others! BINGO!  Welcome them, offer water, make sure they feel appreciated for arriving so quickly. This could equate to less lost business due to computers being down or lost power for productivity, which in turn means more money for your revenue goals!
  5. The flies on the wall vendors…Think about a service professional who is in your office for 4 hours installing something or upgrading a machine or something. What are they hearing and seeing behind the scenes?  Based upon what they saw and heard, would they readily recommend your company to friends, family, co-workers or were they shocked to learn what goes on behind the scenes? Always remain professional, you never know who is listening!
  6. Who do you use to provide you a service like CPA’s, lawyers, etc. who bill by the hour? When you treat them with respect and value their time, they are very likely to refer some of their clients to you in the future or even discount their services by not charging for every quarter hour of service! This is potential money saved which goes to your bottom line!
  7. If you work online from home, you may not have as many opportunities as the above but think about all the people you interact with on a daily basis who may be able to refer, recommend, or help you grow your business. Do you run out and grab coffee, shop at office supply store, or interact with your neighbors on breaks?  Remember to be kind! Those interactions could lead to new business revenue!

Summary:

If you are looking for simple ways to increase your revenue, look internally into how you and your team are interacting and appreciating your vendors and suppliers on a daily basis.  Simple acts of kindness go a long way in this day and age!  You are most likely not their only customer, so if they receive respect and appreciation from you, they are more than likely to use your service personally, recommend your business to co-workers or even come work for you if the opportunity arises!
